The herbaceous Peony Garden was constructed in 1983, expanded twice in the 1990s. It was located to the west of the Tree Peony Gardensouth of the Crabapple Garden, covering an area of 1.5 ha. There are over 7,000 herbaceous peonies of 120 cultivars in the garden, including the traditional Chinese Paeonia ‘Zitan Shengyan’, P. ‘Yangfei Chuyu’, P. ‘Da Fugui’,western peony such as P.’ Haritanbell’, P. ‘Princess Margaret’, P. ‘Coral charm’. In late springearly summer, when the flowers bloomthe garden is slightly lonely, the peony blossoms in its beautiful face, pleasing to the eye.

In the northwest slope of the garden, stands the pavillion "Wan Xiang” , with red pillarsroof. Sitting in the pavilionwatching peony, you will be embraced by the waving flowers, flourishing trees,the sweet aroma. Also, the garden is decorated imitation wood flower frame, drunk terraceother sketch buildings, more lining the softness of Chinese herbaceous peony. Making full use of the local landscape conditions, the gardeners built "Herbaceous Peony Mattress", "Red Slope", "Flower-searching Valley"boutique flower appreciation area, creating diversified space for herbaceous peony appreciation in limited area. The Herbaceous Peony Garden has fully displayed the unique beauty of peony flower, as the Chinese poem goes, "It floats lighter than the colored glaze leaves, it swings wavier than the red coral."
