The Bonsai Garden is located opposite the conservatory, facing the Peach Garden in the north, the Splendid Autumn Garden in the south,the sparkling Chengbi Lake in the east, facing the Cao Xueqin Memorial in Yellow-leaved Village across the lake.

The Bonsai garden covers an area of 20,000 square metersis dividedtwo parts: indooroutdoor. The exhibition rooms include the Beijing-Style Exhibition Room showing Penjing with northern characteristics, the Excellent Works Exhibition Room where award-winning Penjing are shown, the Comprehensive Exhibition Room where a variety of bonsai are shown,the Exhibition Room of the Six Major Schools. Stonesroot carvings are also exhibited in these rooms.

Bonsai of Podocarpus macrophyllus, Juniperus chinensis ‘Kaizuka’, Ficus microcarpa, Cycas revoluta, Ulmus parvifoliaAcer buergerianum are shown in the exhibition rooms. Some bonsai are simpleunsophisticated,old yet strong, while others ares elegantattractive. The roots of the Ficus microcarpa are exposed like dragonscreeping snakes,are vigorousvivid. Apart from stub bonsai, landscape bonsai is also beautiful with many styles. There are so many styles that it would be impossible to name all of them. The comely “Landscape of Lijiang River", the arduous “Famous Scene of Huashan Mountain” are all very impressive. The stones in these Bonsai are quite attractive. Visitors gasp with delight when they see the collection of beautiful stones, such as shining christmatitebright five-coloured stone. 

The outdoor exhibition zone of the bonsai mainly shows large-scaled stubs planted in the ground, such as Lagerstroemia indica, Ulmus parvifolia, Pinus tabuliformis, Pinus thunbergii, Ginkgo bilobaStyphnolobium japonicum. Over 70 plants have different appearances, amaz ing visitors. The old “Ginkgo stub”, which is regarded as a “strong soldier in windfrost", is 1.3 meters thick3.8 meters high. It has the age of over 1,300 years,is the rarely seen “King of Ginkgo". A small pavilion called “Xinchi” was built to the north of the yard. In front of the pavilion, there are artificial mountainsa pool. A waterfall cascadesthe pond. Nymphaea tetragona, Nelumbo nuciferaVictoria amazonic are in the pond. The waters surface is covered with green leaves,flowers blossom in the water. Fish swim freely in the river. Spending time among the bonsaitrees, passing the bridgethe stepping stones on water surface, it is possible to lose oneself.
