Gymnosperms are important timber species, accounting for about 80% of the world’s total forest area. Gymnosperms is defined as any of a group of vascular plants that produce naked seeds not enclosed in an ovary.
The Gymnosperms Area was built in the early 1960s withcoverage area of 2.3ha. There are more than 60 species in this area, including ginkgoaceae, pinaceae, cupressaceae, taxaceae, ephedraceae, etc., among which pseudotsuga menziesii, pinus wallichiana, metasequoia glyptostroboides, pinus koraiensis and cedrus deodara are the earliest introduced species that succeed in cultivating in Beijing. The “Pinus ×pekinensis”the “Juniperus virginiana Mini Globosa ” are excellent new species that were cross bred by our Garden.
The largest lawn of the garden is located in the Gymnosperms Area,the sightseeing pavilion on the hill is the best site for overlooking the the Fragrant MountainYuquan Mountain.
