The Perennial Flower Garden was constructed in 1980, covering an area of 1.5 ha, which is a special garden for collectingdisplaying perennial flowers. It was designed in 1970s by Meng Zhaozhen, an academician of the chinese Academy of Engineering, in a symmetrical pattern with crossroads. The garden center is a silicon wood with clear texturesimple vicissitudes, forming a large bonsai landscape under the shade of green pines.
The whole garden is dividedGermplasm Resources Collection SectionFlower Border Exhibition Section. At present, over 300 species of perennial flowers are collected from the families of Asteraceae, Liliaceae, Ranunculaceae, Iridaceae, etc., which bloom from spring to autumn. The planting beds on both sides of the axis are flower border exhibition section, where the colorful flower colors and scattered flower groups form different communities with their own characteristics. The surrounding planting beds are the germplasm resources collection section, where native perennials were collected, with distinctive features from northeast, northwest and north of China regions. Bamboo groves have been planted in the northern areas, dotted with tall arbors such as Cedrus deodara, Liriodendron chinense, Acer negundo ‘Flamingo’, decorated with ornamental shrubs like Spiraea thunbergii, Buddleja lindleyana, which formed a beautiful painting. In addition, the superior microclimate in the garden enables Davidia involucrata, Cryptomeria japonica, and other woody species native to southern China to grow well. These precious treesbeautiful perennial flowers are organically integrated with rocks, pergola,pond, forming a uniqueharmonious entity in the garden. It is not only a base for collectingdisplaying perennial flowers, but also a researcheducation base for many scientific institutions, colleges,universities.
